ML, then and now

My dad (who studied law in communist Czechoslovakia): I had to pass exams in ML.

Me: Wait, what? ML was barely a thing then. And I didn’t know that…

Dad: Marxism-leninism

Me: Oh

Related, from a book on electrification in Russia:

Never thought I would see “electricians” in a sentence where “singularitarians” could fit just as well.
